Hello,

here comes the July newsletter with a portion of market news and a few bites about our newest products.

A recent survey by the Nakamoto Project found that gold is held by 10.8% of adult Americans. What is interesting, though, is that Bitcoin is held by 18.6% of Americans, that is 49.6 million people. Given gold’s history in the country, which we cover below, the shift toward Bitcoin makes sense 😉

Bitcoin in Kazakhstan’s national reserve

Kazakhstan is starting to build a national Bitcoin reserve. Instead of buying, it relies on miners, and a new law aims to motivate them to mine and channel part of the mined BTC into the national reserve. In exchange for a preferential 10-year contract on cheaper energy, Kazakhstan claims roughly 10% of the mined bitcoins after costs. Read more.

Gold outlawed

For most investors gold is a safe haven. But did you know that from 1933 private ownership of gold in the US was a crime? President Roosevelt’s legendary executive order of April 1933 ordered all Americans to sell it to the state. Continuing to hold gold meant risking prison or a huge fine, and that lasted until 1973. No wonder a new generation in the US is reaching for an asset that is unconfiscatable, free, intangible and almost untraceable.

Private ownership of gold in the US was a crime from 1933 to 1973.

Bitcoin brought advantages that gold cannot offer, above all thanks to its intangible form. If you want to learn more about this chapter of money, we offer summer reading in the form of our book Broken Money & the Way Out.
